Motorcyclist seriously injured after three-vehicle crash on Birmingham Rd

A motorcyclist had to be taken to a major trauma center after a three-vehicle crash in Birmingham. The motorcyclist was involved in a collision with two cars in Bordesley Green East, near Stechford, at 3.50pm on Tuesday (May 14).

Police and ambulance crews were sent to the scene with the road closed at the junction with Richmond Road and buses diverted. West Midlands Ambulance Service sent three ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT (Medical Emergency Response and Intervention Team) trauma doctor and two critical care paramedics.




They found a motorcyclist who was seriously injured and after treatment at the scene he was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, despite the incident taking place close to Heartlands Hospital. A passenger in one of the cars was also injured and taken to Heartlands. While a third man suffered minor injuries and was discharged at the scene.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 3.50pm to a road traffic collision in Bordesley Green East, near Stechford. Upon arrival, crews found two cars and a motorcycle involved in a collision.

“The male motorcyclist was found with serious injuries and, following treatment by ambulance staff, was taken by blue lights to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

“A passenger in one of the cars, a man, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Heartlands Hospital, while a third man was treated for minor injuries but did not require treatment and was discharged on the spot”.

West Midlands Roads, the Transport for West Midlands road information service, tweeted shortly after 4pm and said: “Bordesley Green East/Upton Road. Traffic collision on this route. The u route is currently blocked by traffic lights near Richmond Road. Allow extra time for travelers and consider other routes.”
