Carlton Palmer urges ‘excellent’ Leeds United player to join Sheffield Wednesday

Carlton Palmer has urged a “fantastic” player to join Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday are set to begin an overhaul of their squad this summer as they look to improve their relegation rate next season.

The Owls still have a long list of players whose contracts will expire this month, although they will be keen to extend the stay of some of them.

However, others will leave on free transfers and be replaced by fresh faces.

Danny Rohl’s success in the January transfer window bodes well for the summer, having brought in fan favorites in James Beadle, Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda.

All three had already been linked with a second move to Hillsborough on Wednesday, with Poveda set to become a free agent himself.

The Colombian’s “excellent” spell on loan on Wednesday caught the eye, however, and Rohl’s side are now likely to face competition from Sunderland, Burnley and Luton.

Poveda will have the pick of the bunch as he is released by Leeds United, however Wednesday legend Carlton Palmer believes his “best fit” is a return to Hillsborough.

Carlton Palmer urges ‘fan favourite’ to join Sheffield Wednesday

Speaking to Football League World, he said: “Ian joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan and quickly became a fan favourite. He was part of the team that stayed in the championship and was an integral part of it.

“He played very, very well and all the players speak very highly of Danny Rohl. I think Poveda has to be very careful now. He didn’t play at Leeds United, he needs to move somewhere where he will get playing time.

“Of course Burnley and Luton will be in the Championship next season, Sunderland will be in the Championship. I think the best fit for him is where he is, Sheffield Wednesday.

“Join a club you love, it’s become a fan favourite. Join a club where you play regular football, where you enjoy football, where you enjoy playing for the manager.

“It’s not just about money, you have to look at where you’re going to play your best football, where you’re going to play consistently, where the fans like to see you and where the manager plays you in the right position. , where you enjoy football and understand what you are doing.

“I think the best fit for him is to join Sheffield Wednesday, where he spent the second half of the season on loan and excelled.”

Ian Poveda cannot afford to make a wrong decision now

Ian Poveda’s career has been lost since he joined Leeds United in 2020.

The winger made 14 Premier League appearances but was never able to establish himself as a regular for the Whites, scoring just three goals in two loan spells with Blackburn and Blackpool.

Although he failed to score for the Owls, he had a really positive impact on the Owls and made a vital contribution to their survival.

He has become a fan favorite and formed a brilliant relationship with the club in such a short time.

Poveda’s next move is a really big one and could determine the rest of his career, and Wednesday’s reload looks particularly risk-free.

Joining a club like Burnley certainly won’t guarantee him game time and that seems to be what he needs for the new season.
