Driver has ‘very lucky escape’ after tree branch smashes through windscreen

This image shows a driver’s ‘very lucky escape’ – after a tree branch smashed his windscreen. Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident on Tuesday (May 14).

Sussex Police said no one was in the front passenger seat and the driver was uninjured following the incident on the A283 between Dacre Gardens and Shoreham. It is believed that a truck on the other side of the road hit the branch, which snapped it and sent it into the Volkswagen.

Sussex Roads Police said on X, ex Twitter: “The driver of this vehicle had a very lucky escape this afternoon on the A283 between Dacre Gardens and Shoreham.

“A high sided HGV hit a branch which came off and hit the car. If you witnessed it or have the dash cam please contact Sussex Police quoting CAD 904 14/5/24.”

A later post added: “Luckily there was no passenger in the front seat and the driver was uninjured.”
