A shocking video shows the door smashed to pieces by thieves who ‘looted’ charity offices

A shocking video has revealed the devastation left by thieves who broke in and ‘ransacked’ the premises of a Leicestershire charity. Worklink Hinckley receives donations of furniture, electrical appliances and other goods which are sent to people in need and also sold in its shop.

Footage taken by staff following the break-in on Sunday, May 12, shows the floor strewn with glass and one of the office doors smashed into pieces. Thieves stole cash from offices and a van which was one of two used by the charity to make deliveries.

The charity has contracts with both Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council to provide goods to people fleeing domestic violence and asylum seekers. Project manager Mandy Chapman said the break-in was a “massive shock”.

She added: “The charity has been running for over 38 years and I’ve never had anything like this before and that was one of the shocks as well. We are also in the process of moving headquarters, so trying to move past a break, ransacking the offices, they took some money, but they looked for the keys to the van.

“Obviously it’s affected us financially. We’ve had to hire a van. But it’s also a shock to our service users and it’s affected us time-wise. We’re still trying to work as we have to be away from the premises our current in a few weeks.

“Some of the people who were referred to us from the council, we have to provide them (with goods) within 48 hours, someone who is in real need. It set us back a few days.”

A Leicestershire Police spokesman asked anyone with information about the break-in to report it via the force’s website or by calling 101, quoting crime reference 24*278577.
