Oldham go to Cornwall as one of two unbeaten professional teams in 35

AFTER hammering Newcastle Thunder 74-0 last time out, on the day Keighley Cougars suffered a shock 26-18 defeat at home to Hunslet, Sean Long’s OLDHAM sit top of the Betfred League One table and are now the ONLY tier three team left. a 100% record.

They are also one of ONLY two teams, out of the 35 that make up Super League (12), Championship (14) and League One (9) to remain unbeaten in rugby league this season. The other side still flying their colors are former SL side Wakefield Trinity, who have really put their relegation behind them to win each of their opening seven Championship games and also qualify for a Wembley meeting with Sheffield in the final . of the 1895 Cup.

This is the year of upsets though (such as Hunslet’s win at Keighley, Cornwall’s triumph at Midlands Hurricanes yesterday and Castleford’s 28-28 draw at Leigh in round ten of the Super League).

Oldham are hot favorites to win the League One title and thus gain automatic promotion, but they have enough experience to know that in any given game a two-horse race can go either way on the day, from where and the determination to be in their place. Cornwall’s finest, who posted a notice of their own intent with that 24-22 upset win in the Midlands, writes ROGER HALSTEAD.

Jay Chapelhow hit the nail on the head when Roughyeds TV said:

“We’re going to get the best version of every team in this league. We are a new project and with the amount of investment that has gone into it and the quality that we have in the team. opponents will shoot for us. They have nothing to lose. We are already seeing this.

“We like and enjoy the challenge. Hopefully our opponents will soon see the best of Oldham as well.”

Mike FordMeanwhile, he said at the last partners’ meeting that he and the board were delighted with how things were going on and off the pitch and that there would be exciting announcements to be made soon.

He said:

“I still don’t think our story has been fully told. We are taking this club on the road of a lifetime, but as I keep saying publicly, we can only do it together. We are reconnecting with the city and are very encouraged by what has been achieved since we took over just over a year ago. Exciting things are happening on the ground and also in the community at Melrose with the kids and the Foundation.

“We want to make Oldham great again and I’m sure we have the people in place to do it, but there are also reasons why I say our story needs to have an even bigger impact.”

He went on to tell the story of two highly influential rugby league men in the local community who attended the club’s recent dinner but admitted afterwards that they had not yet been to Boundary Park to see the current League table players One in action.

Mike added:

“As our slogan says. ‘We are stronger together’ and that’s why we need everyone at BP to cheer the boys on at home and why I say our message has yet to be fully said.”

Around him were representatives of the Oldham Amateur League, Oldham RLFC Heritage Trust, Oldham Rugby (Supporters Trust) and Oldham Players’ Association.

Throw in Mike Ford and the parent body and that’s a wide cross-section of Oldham’s rugby league community.

We really are stronger together. . . and you don’t come much stronger than Sean Long’s Oldham, who sit proudly at the top of League One with six wins from six, games in hand and the best for and against figures in the division.

Allowing just 42 points in six games, or an average of seven points per game, is remarkable even by Oldham standards.

No wonder the club’s guards (their words) are in seventh heaven with the way things are going.
