Matthew Perry’s death: Arrests made by law enforcement, reports say

  • An arrest has been made as part of an investigation into the death of Matthew Perry.
  • The “Friends” actor died with ketamine in his system, a coroner found.
  • LAPD and the DEA are investigating how he obtained the excess ketamine.

A law enforcement agency has made an arrest in connection with the death of “Friends” actor Matthew Perry, according to multiple reports.

Perry died last October at the age of 54. An examination by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office attributed his death to “acute effects of ketamine.”

Ketamine is often used as a party drug, but it can also be used to treat mental health problems under the supervision of a doctor. Perry — who had long struggled with substance use — used ketamine therapy before his death. But the amount found by the coroner in his body was much higher, consistent with the amount used in general anesthesia during surgery.

Drowning and coronary heart disease contributed to his death, the coroner’s office said.

In March, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that it had opened an investigation into Perry’s death and was working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the US Postal Service to determine how he acquired so much ketamine.

NBC News reported Thursday that an arrest has been made in connection with Perry’s death. TMZ reported that multiple arrests were made and that law enforcement agencies seized computers and phones while executing search warrants.

A representative for the Los Angeles Police Department referred questions to the US Drug Enforcement Administration, which referred questions to the US Attorney’s Office for Central California, which did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment.
