The woman who “thought she spilled coffee in the cupboard” realizes it’s much worse

A woman preparing her morning cup at work made a grim discovery when she opened the cupboard in the break room.

She thought she spilled coffee beans all over the place at first – that is until they started moving.

Sharing photos on Reddit, user Echowolfe88 revealed that what initially appeared to be coffee beans covering cupboard doors and shelves turned out to be hundreds of ants living inside.

According to the post, the invasion happened over a weekend because the closet was spotless the previous Friday (May 10). The poster read this disturbing incident: “Ant situation we found at work when we went to make coffee.”

Graphic evidence showed repulsive groups of ants crawling over mugs, coffee packets and boxes. Extreme close-ups exposed shelves completely overrun with ants and possibly eggs.

Adding to the horror, the original poster revealed that the infestation took place in a school setting.

This stomach-churning post left Reddit users stunned, with one initially assuming it was “coffee grounds to begin with”. The original poster seemed equally mistaken, thinking it was coffee beans “before everything started moving”.

Other users expressed their displeasure with the attempt, suggesting solutions ranging from hiring an anteater to using a flamethrower.

One person joked: “Guess the logical next order of business is getting a super cute pet like an anteater. Maybe a herd of them”.

Another chimed in with a practical solution, suggesting that a single anteater could solve the problem, adding: “Ants can eat up to 30,000 ants a day and most ant colonies consist of 20,000-100,000 ants. I doubt this is a completely healthy colony, so it’s probably on the lower end, so 1 antkeeper probably deals with this problem one day.”

The challenge of locating the source of the ants was complex, but a pest controller was called the same day the ants were found. Reddit users pondered how the ants invaded, with the original poster suspecting that “their nest under the building was flooded.”

Amid questions about whether coffee was still an option after the discovery, it was reported that the team opted to get their caffeine fix from outside, deeming it “safer”.
