Derby County have spoken of transfer “concern” amid links with the Sheffield Wednesday hero

Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer says the fact that Josh Windass played just 25 games last season in the Championship is a concern for any club trying to sign him.

Derby County have been linked with the striker along with Stoke City, West Brom and Hull, with the 30-year-old set to be out of contract this summer. There will likely be no shortage of suitors, and America could also be a potential destination for the striker who scored seven goals last season.

Derby will revamp their attack this summer after winning promotion back to the Championship, with Paul Warne keen to add more athleticism. But Palmer, a Wednesday legend, says having to go back to the 2020/21 season for the last time Windass played more than 40 games is a problem.

“Josh Windass is out of contract this summer and discussions are ongoing with Sheffield Wednesday,” Palmer told FLW.

“Josh has been an integral part of Sheffield Wednesday over the last few seasons. Of course, he scored the winning goal at Wembley to promote them back to the Championship. He is very popular with supporters and enjoys spending time with Danny Rohl. as I’m sure the rest of the players are.”

“Greens like Stoke, West Brom, Derby County and Hull are monitoring the situation with Josh, as well as being coveted by MLS clubs. I know Josh has an American girlfriend and going to America is something that would interest. l.
