Union at BHP’s Escondida copper mine in Chile signs new deal, ending risk of strike By Reuters

Santiago (Reuters) – The union at Chile’s Escondida mine, the world’s largest, signed a deal with BHP on Sunday, ending the risk of another strike that could have threatened global supplies of the red metal.

Earlier in the day, the union sent a memo to members warning it could launch another strike if the company does not “rectify its position” on contract negotiations.

The mine’s powerful union went on strike on Tuesday over pay disputes and then reached a tentative agreement on Friday to end it.
