Trump to reiterate he will stop sale of US Steel to Nippon By Reuters

YORK, Pennsylvania (Reuters) – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will reiterate on Monday that he will block Nippon Steel’s planned purchase of US Steel and move to roll back the Biden administration’s power plant pollution rules.

In February, Trump signaled he would take steps to block the deal. Trump will tell employees in York, Pennsylvania, that if elected, he will “stop Japan from buying US Steel,” according to prepared remarks released by the campaign.

Shares in US Steel were lower and fell after reports of Trump’s planned remarks and recently traded up 3.5%. President Joe Biden said in March that it was vital that US Steel “remain an American steel company that is domestically owned and operated.”

In April, the Environmental Protection Agency published final rules targeting carbon, air and water pollution from power plants that it says could cut more than 1 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions by 2047. The electricity sector is responsible for nearly a quarter of US greenhouse gases. pollution, according to the EPA.

Trump will call the rule part of an “anti-American energy crusade” that he would seek to repeal and “instead of closing power plants, we’re going to open dozens more.” He also promised to prevent the transition to more electric vehicles that the Biden administration has championed.

Trump will say in his remarks that he will “issue rapid approvals for new energy infrastructure — and we will embrace all forms of energy, including nuclear. a historic commitment to bring “Advanced Small Modular Nuclear Reactors” online.

Trump has also vowed to revoke China’s most-favored-nation trade status and seek legislation to force China or other countries to pay reciprocal tariffs if they impose new tariffs. He also said he would invoke the Defense Production Act to “rapidly increase capacity for essential products.”
