Upfest 2024: Guide to the venues and streets where key parts of the festival are taking place

Upfest Presents launches on Friday (May 17) and will run for 17 days in the BS3 area. From live art painted by some of the region’s best and brightest artists, to workshops and talks for visitors to engage in across multiple venues, live music, tours and more – the event is set to be packed. for do.

If you’ve never ventured to an Upfest event or even the South Bristol area, we’ve compiled a guide to some of the key areas of the street art festival. These include venues for artwork, venues and centers for activities and other events, so you can plan your event days around you.

It’s also a handy guide to where to go if you need a break from browsing the artwork, a bite to eat, a rest stop or just want to soak up the sun in a garden of beer nearby…

Upfest Gallery – 198 North Street, BS3 1JF

Upfest’s permanent headquarters and year-round gallery space, offering Bristol’s largest range of spray paint and a bespoke framing service. Upfest Presents hours are Monday through Saturday (10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) and Sunday (10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.).

Crypt – Saint Paul’s Church, Southville Road, BS3 1AS

The Crypt will feature artwork by Audrey Kawasaki, Insane51, L7Matrix, Jacqui Butterworth, Inkie, Squirl, Cheba, Guy Denning, Mau Mau and Rob Wass. Open May 24, 25 and 26, 12-6pm.

Local Bristol – 11-14 North Street, Bedminster, BS3 1EN

Formerly the North Street Standard, Local Bristol is an independent bar and kitchen serving Ma & Cheese, beer, frozen margaritas and more. Open Tuesday-Thursday (16-23), Friday (12-12), Saturday (10-12) and Sunday (10-17)

Ladies Bar – 43 Dean Lane, Bedminster, BS3 1BS

Described as having “relaxed vibes for a wild crowd” and a “friendly neighborhood dive bar”, it’s a firm favorite among local skateboarders and the wider BS3 community. Open Monday-Wednesday (16-12), Thursday-Saturday (13-1) and Sunday (13-12).

Studio @ Bristol Beer Factory – 291 North Street, BS3 1JP

Bristol Beer Factory’s Tap Room and event space boasts two massive screens, ideal for watching live sport. Open Monday (12-21), Tuesday and Wednesday (12-22), Thursday to Saturday (12-23) and Sunday (12-20).

Hen and Chicken – 210 North Street, BS3 1JF

The Hen & Chicken is a “lively, event and party bar” located in the heart of North Street, Southville. It serves a selection of local craft beers, wines and spirits, as well as fresh-from-the-kitchen pizza and barbecue. In addition, it boasts a sunny front terrace and sun trap garden for you to enjoy.

The bar is open Monday and Tuesday (16:00-12:00), Wednesday and Thursday (12:00-12:00), Friday and Saturday (12:00-1:00) and Sunday (12:00-23:00: 00). The kitchen is open Wednesday and Thursday (12-2.30pm/5-9pm) and Friday-Sunday (12-9pm).

Frankenstein Press – 31 North Street, Bedminster, BS3 1EN

Frankenstein Press is a printmaking studio based in the heart of Bedminster, Bristol, which specializes in traditional printmaking techniques and creative workshops for adults and children. The store is open Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00.

Steam Crane – 4-6 North Street, Southville, BS3 1HT

Dubbed “North Street staples”, the Steam Crane is a space where visitors can enjoy drinks, bring their own food and browse a showcase of art from local artists. It also boasts weekly pub quizzes and games night and offers an outdoor terrace and a building steeped in history. Open Monday to Sunday (13:00-12:00).

Silver & Steel – 74 East Street, Bedminster, BS3 4EY

A unique jewelery studio and gallery in the heart of Bedminster, Silver & Steel offers studio space and jewelery learning and development, beginner classes and tasting workshops. The gallery space sells interesting, sustainably made jewelry from independent makers and regularly hosts photography exhibitions. Open to the public Thursday-Saturday (10:00-18:00).

The Old Bookstore – 65 North Street, BS3 1ES

The Old Bookshop is a ‘friendly neighborhood bar’ located on North Street serving a range of beer, wine, spirits, cider and cocktails – with food available seven days a week. Open Monday-Wednesday (16:00-23:00), Thursday (12:00-12:30), Friday to Saturday (12:00-1:30) and Sunday (12:00-23:00).

Kask – 51 North Street, BS3 1EN

Described as “one of Bristol’s favorite bars thanks to its range or organic and natural wines, offbeat approach and friendly team”, Kask also has a large garden hidden behind the venue. Open Wednesday and Thursday (17-23), Friday (16-23), Saturday (14-23) and Sunday (14-21).

The Tobacco Factory – Raleigh Road, Southville, BS3 1TF

The original site of Upfest. The multi-purpose building houses the Cafe Bar, creative industry workspace, live/work loft apartments, animation and performing arts schools and one of the most exciting theater venues in the country. Open Monday-Thursday (10:00-23:00), Friday-Saturday (10:00-12:00) and Sunday (10:00-23:00).
