The leader to continue to have the role of the Collaborative Council will work together again

Sheffield Council’s new administration was officially announced today, with a collaboration between Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party.

Cllr Tom Hunt will continue as Leader of the Council for a second year and Cllr Fran Belbin will be Deputy Leader, both from the Labor Party. Cllr Hunt said after the announcement that “we will continue the work we have started over the last 12 months”.

The council consists of eight policy committees plus a finance committee, and the chairs for all of these were also confirmed at today’s (Wednesday 15) meeting.th May) Annual General Meeting.

All political groups on the Council are represented on committees in proportion to the number of councilors from each party elected at the 2024 local elections on Thursday 2 May.

Labor will preside 4 committees, liberal-democrats 3and the Green Party 2.

Council Leader Cllr Tom Hunt said:

“It’s huge the honor of being re-elected to the leadership of Sheffield City Council. We will continue the work we started in the last 12 months. We will work hard to help people with the cost of living crisis, improve our public transport and build the new homes we need. We have a shared commitment to bringing in investment, creating new jobs and making Sheffield cleaner, greener and safer.

“Sheffield is a growing city and we will work together to build a better and brighter future for our city.”

Cllr Shaffaq Mohammed, leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Sheffield City Council, said:

“The Liberal Democrat Group at Sheffield City Council is committed to continuing the work that the Council has started over the last 12 months for the benefit of our residents.

“We will work with all parties to help people through the ongoing cost of living crisis, while striving to bring investment to the city and improve the lives of all who call Sheffield home through better transport, housing and cultural offerings.”

Cllr Douglas Johnson, leader of the Green Group at Sheffield City Council, said:

“The last 12 months have shown how political parties can come together and work for the benefit of Sheffield. The Green Party played a role in this work, and wI look forward to contributing to the continuation of this work in the coming year.

“Housing, transport and tackling climate and natural emergencies are among the priorities for all of us to build a bright future for Sheffield.”
