A dancer died tragically after being strangled during a sex encounter before her “controlling” boyfriend took his own life, an inquest heard.

Georgia May Brooke, 26, from Ossett, West Yorkshire, died at Bradford Royal Infirmary in the early hours of Friday, February 4, 2022. Her boyfriend, Luke Cannon, was found dead later that day , after taking his own life. A coroner today ruled Ms Brooke was “unlawfully killed”.

The inquest found that Georgia’s death was caused by “manual strangulation”, aggravated by the use of the “party drug” GHB and cocaine. During the hearing in Bradford, Georgia’s mother, Samantha Beaumont, gave an emotional account of her daughter’s life and achievements.

Samantha tearfully described Georgia as a talented and dedicated dancer who had excelled in her dance exams and won a scholarship to a renowned performing arts school in London. She had worked as a dancer in Crete and was excited to return to Greece when she died.

The loss has left the family devastated, Samantha told the inquest, Yorkshire Live reports. “The impact on my family was huge. We are devastated beyond belief. Georgia is gone, leaving a huge hole.”

Samantha also told how her daughter’s personality changed after meeting Luke, describing his behavior as “manic and hyper”, while Georgia became “submissive”. She accused Luke of being “controlling”.

In the wake of Georgia’s tragic death, her mother Samantha revealed she was told her daughter was “strangled during sex” and believes Luke was responsible for her death. The inquest heard that paramedics were called to a house in Thornbury, Bradford, where they discovered Georgia in cardiac arrest.

Her boyfriend, Luke, confessed to a paramedic that they had consumed alcohol and a “sex drug” known as “G” – GHB. A doctor, who examined Georgia at Bradford Royal Infirmary, said it appeared Georgia had been dead for a longer period than Luke had indicated. An examination revealed purple “ligature marks” around Georgia’s neck.

A nurse who chatted with Luke at Bradford Royal Infirmary revealed that he admitted they used GHB for a “feeling of euphoria” during their intimate moments. The nurse described Luke as agitated, similar to someone under the influence of cocaine.

The nurse also revealed that Luke mentioned that Georgia started having trouble breathing before she passed out. The inquest was told that Luke left the hospital through a fire exit and was later found hanged nearby.

In a statement, a friend described Georgia and Luke’s relationship as fueled by ‘sex and drugs’, adding that they were often ‘suffocating each other’. The friend characterized Luke as ‘manipulative’, describing him as ‘a loud-mouthed, ladies man’.

The court heard that although some knew Luke as a property developer, one witness claimed he was involved in drug dealing. His owner revealed that Luke had previously worked as a personal trainer and owned his own gym.
