Compared to how things have been going of late, Luke “The Nuke” Littler had a bit of a rough go of it this week.

A shock first-round exit at the Baltic Sea Darts Open at the weekend followed Michael Van Gerwen’s shot in the semi-finals of the PDC Premier League Darts Night 15, but he is still on the verge of finishing his debut Premier League campaign with a top ranking ranking ahead of the Final Night in London on May 23.

Teenage sensation Warrington and their seven Premier League rivals head to Sheffield on Thursday for the final night of the league stage of the competition, with Littler looking to secure top spot by beating Peter Wright in the quarter-finals.

If he fails to do so, the door will be open for Humphries, but even then, the world number one needs a repeat of his evening victory in Leeds last week to overhaul the 17-year-old.

Littler and Wright will open the show at the Utilita Arena, with the winner facing either Nathan Aspinall or Michael Smith in the semi-finals.

The winner of Aspinall vs Smith will earn the last remaining spot on Finals Night alongside Littler, Humphries and Van Gerwen.

The players will meet twice in the quarter-finals throughout the season, with the fixtures balanced so that players are in opposite halves of the draw in an equal number of weeks.

The schedules for Night 8 and Night 16 will be based on the league table following Night 7 and Night 15 respectively.

The top four players in the final league standings will advance to the Play-Offs, which will include best-of-19 semi-finals and best-of-21 finals.

The pitching order for all night games in the league will be decided by a walk-off, which will be held beforehand in the training room. For the play-offs, the semi-finals will see the first player from the final league standings, with a draw for the final.
