New BBC thriller Reunion begins filming in Sheffield with some big names in the cast

Filming for a new BBC thriller began this week in and around Sheffield.

Film crews have already been spotted filming at Crookes Cemetery for the show, Reunion, which will star Dune’s Stephen Collins and Broadchurch’s Joe Sims.

Written by Sheffield-born deaf writer William Mager, Reunion has been described as an emotional thriller that follows the journey of Daniel Brennan, a deaf man determined to right his wrongs, as he uncovers the truth behind the events that led him to prison.

The makers of the four-part series say it will “mark a milestone in inclusive storytelling”, with most of the cast and many crew being deaf or using British Sign Language (BSL).

Matthew Gurney, who previously starred in Name Me Lawand and Coffee Morning Club, leads the cast as recently released prisoner Daniel Brennan.

Brennan embodies the struggle of a man caught between two worlds, unable to fully integrate into the hearing world and shunned by his closest friends and the wider deaf community in the wake of his heinous crime.

As he continues to feel isolated, Brennan’s only meaningful relationship is with his estranged daughter Carly, played by How to Have Sex star Lara Peake, with whom he has had no contact since his arrest over a decade.
