3 players to leave Birmingham City after relegation disaster

Birmingham City will play in League One next season after a disastrous 2023/24 campaign which saw them relegated from the Championship.

Birmingham City have been relegated from the Championship after a disastrous season. It marks a big step backwards in their ambitious plans for the future and will no doubt lead to a hectic summer window.

New signings will be needed, but a whole host of exits are expected this summer, particularly for high-profile players from St. Andrew’s.

Relegated clubs often lose their star men and despite the Blues’ financial backing and their hopes for the future, they will experience nothing different when the window opens.

That said, here are three players who must leave Birmingham City this summer…

Jordan James

Among the star players at the club, few will be as sought after as Jordan James.

The young Welsh midfielder would have been hard to keep even if Birmingham City had stayed awake. Now, following a drop in League One, it seems inevitable that he will move and it will likely be quite early in the transfer window.

James will have admirers at the top of the league, but expect the top teams to be excited as well.

Krystian Bielik

Bielik left Derby County last summer to avoid playing League One football and with Birmingham City now suffering the same fate, he could be on the move once more as he looks to keep his place in the international squad of Poland.

The 26-year-old is a reliable defensive midfielder and centre-back and should not be without admirers as the transfer window approaches.

Juninho Bacuna

Last but not least is another Birmingham City midfielder, Juninho Bacuna.

With nine goals and six assists in all competitions, the Curacao international is by far the most productive of the Blues’ players and that will justify a move to the next level.

He is under contract until 2025 so expect Birmingham City to get a decent fee for him.
