Birmingham City are tracking Liam Rosenior

Birmingham City have short-listed Liam Rosenior as a potential managerial candidate, according to a report from Football Insider.

Birmingham City are preparing for life in League One next season after relegation from the Championship. They will be chasing immediate promotion back from the third tier and have a big summer ahead of them on the transfer front.

Rosenior, 39, guided Hull City to 7th place this past campaign and they were three points off the play-offs. However, he was surprisingly sacked by the club’s hierarchy last week and will now weigh up his next move in the game.

In this latest update on his future by Football Insider, Birmingham City are now considering a possible swoop for him. PlymouthLive claim he has also been scouted for Plymouth Argyle’s vacant position in their dugout as they hunt for Steven Schumacher’s long-term replacement.

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Birmingham City are looking at a new candidate

Rosenior likes his team to play from the back and his Hull City side have played attractive football last term.

It would be a statement of intent from Birmingham City if they could convince him to drop down a division. The future is still bright for the Blues and they may tempt him with their draft.

Rosenior spent his playing career as a right back with the likes of Bristol City, Fulham, Hull City and Brighton and Hove Albion.

He then entered the world of coaching with the latter before landing the number two role at Derby County under Wayne Rooney.

The Londoner then became interim number one in 2022 and won seven of his 12 games in charge before being replaced by Paul Warne at Pride Park.

Hull City then moved for him in November of the same year to replace Shota Arveladze and helped them stay up in his first year.

Rosenior led the Tigers to challenge for promotion to the Premier League in his second, but they finished below the top six at the end.

What’s next?

Birmingham City could see the former defender as the man to lead them forward.

Rosenior is still young, has a lot of potential and will have learned a lot from his recent spell at Hull City.

Plymouth Argyle are also apparently in the frame, so the Blues would have to see off competition from the league above if they were to lure him to the Midlands.
