Wiltshire Council has invested a further £1m to tackle the problem

Wiltshire Council is taking advantage of the drier weather to tackle the risk of flooding on our roads by clearing gullies.

They pumped an extra million pounds to ensure they allowed the water to flow off the road, keeping our journey both safe and on time.

It is the second wave of investment the council has made to tackle the problem, with six oil tankers now working to clear gutters across the county.

Council leader Richard Clewer said: “In the last year we have cleaned 42,000 gutters. Now we only have about 80,000 total in the county. So we are on the right track to overcome all the gullies. and running”.

He added that it was made worse by the months of rain we endured over the winter, but says this latest round of funding means they have the capacity to tackle the problem.

“We’ve had several teams go out there and deal with gutters that are getting clogged with runoff coming from farmers’ fields,” Cllr Clewer said.

He insists the council is committed to clearing every blocked culvert in Wiltshire, urging us to report anything we know of or find.

“If it’s an area where, of course, funding will be prioritized, it will be done quickly or it will be put on a list. You might not see action right away, but it will be on that list and we’re clearing that list. so it will be cleaned up,” he said.

We can report a crash on the MyWilts app or via the Council’s website.
