Mark Cuban asks Elon Musk to post the source code of Algorithm X

“Can you post the source code of the expected algorithm, before implementing them? So that users can provide feedback?” Cuban wrote in a post X to Musk on Sunday.

“Or even details on how you will determine Reputation, Relevance and Similarity? Again, so users can give general feedback? Unless, of course, you want to define it yourself, which is of course your right,” Cuban added.

This wouldn’t be the first time the “Shark Tank” star has questioned X’s algorithm.

Earlier this month, Cuban told Jon Stewart in an interview on “The Daily Show” that aired Aug. 12 that Musk may have tweaked X’s algorithm to his own preferences.

“When you write an algorithm—I haven’t written much, it’s been a while—but when you write one, you can set the parameters of what you want to see happen. And he certainly did that with the things he did. like,” Cuban said, though he did not provide evidence that Musk manipulated the algorithm.

Cuban’s remarks sparked a response from Musk, who said a few days later in an X post that his platform’s algorithm is open-source, unlike other platforms.

“And if you interact and argue with the ‘right’ accounts, which Cuban does a lot, the algorithm will assume that’s what you want to do and give you more lmao,” Musk said of Cuban, who has been known to respond a wide variety of accounts on X.

But that wasn’t the case for Musk, who went on to call Cuban a giant turd in human form in a later post.

Cuban, for his part, responded to the insult with a series of heart-hand emojis.

When several X users asked why they were focusing on Musk’s platform instead of other social networks, Cuban replied: “What other platforms have their CEO post about politics and personally insult their users?”

Representatives for Cuban and Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.
