An Alabama high school football player has died from a brain injury in the season opener

An Alabama high school football player has died after suffering a brain injury in a game Friday night, according to multiple news reports.

Caden Tellier, whose mother once held an insurance producer license in Alabama, played quarterback for Morgan Academy in Selma. He went down in the third quarter of the season opener after making a tackle and was airlifted to University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital. He died the next day, news sites Al.com and Sports Illustrated reported.

His parents and the school made the announcement on social media on Saturday.

Morgan Academy, part of the Alabama Association of Independent Schools, has canceled athletic activities for the next two weeks, SI said. The private school has 339 students in grades kindergarten through 12th.

Services for Tellier had not yet been scheduled as of Monday morning.

Tellier’s mother, Arsella Tellier, held a temporary insurance producer license in Alabama in 2006 and 2007, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners license search site shows.
