Russia launches 200 missiles at energy facilities in Ukraine

Russia fired about 200 missiles into Ukraine on Monday, targeting energy facilities, while Polish media reported that Warsaw had deployed jets to defend Polish airspace against the attack, and a US air base in Germany remained on full alert, in a state of preparation.

Parts of Kiev were left without power and water, according to Reuters.

“The desire to destroy our energy sector will cost the Russians dearly for their infrastructure,” said Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, as quoted by the Kyiv Post.

According to the Kyiv Post, at least four people were killed and authorities across the country were forced to introduce emergency blackouts, with 15 regions targeted in one of the biggest attacks Moscow has launched in weeks, as retaliation for Ukraine’s ground offensive. Russian Kursk region.

Ukraine’s Kursk offensive has now been going on for nearly three weeks, with military authorities claiming the advance is continuing. Russian forces are now trying to advance into eastern Ukraine, hoping to capture the transport hub of Pokrovsk, according to Kyiv Post.

Also on Monday, Ukrainian forces targeted Russia’s Engels Airfield, home to military aircraft, in the Saratov region, although the extent of the damage from that attack remains unclear. The Russian Defense Ministry reported on its Telegram channel on Monday that it shot down Ukrainian UAVs over Saratov overnight, the BBC reported.

According to Ukraine’s AU TV, citing German intelligence sources, Germany foiled an alleged Russian plan to target a NATO air base in Geilenkirchen last week. The base was prepared for combat following warnings from the US Secret Service of a potential attack last week, and then the level of readiness was reduced after it was determined that Moscow had withdrawn its plans.
