Checkers and Rally’s are launching $5 meal deals

It adds another pair of contenders to the battle for $5 meal deals, which has been steadily rising all summer.

Checkers and Rally’s, the sister restaurant chains with nearly 800 locations in the U.S. (Checkers is mostly in the Southeast, while Rally’s is more in the Midwest), announced a $5-for-$5 offer to attract the customers.

Hungry patrons will be able to choose from either a double cheeseburger or a spicy chicken sandwich and pair them with an 8-piece chicken patty, a small order of seasoned fries, a 16-ounce soft drink and a dessert of apple pie.

The deal will last until September 11, the company says.

Checkers/Rally’s announcement comes just weeks after White Castle announced it was cutting its prices to a level not seen since 2011. Jimmy John’s also launched a meal deal in August, though that price was $10 in instead of the popular $5 Mark that most other chains have stuck to.

2024 has been the summer of price cuts at fast-food chains as companies work to win back customers who have become frustrated with drive-thru inflationary pressures. There have been many claims of “McFlation” this year, following reports of $8 chicken sandwiches and $18 Big Macs. (McDonald’s CEO Joe Erlinger addressed the issue last month, issuing a public letter to counter what he called “viral social posts and bad reports that McDonald’s raised prices significantly above inflation rates.”)

McDonald’s has been offering a $5 meal at most locations nationwide since June and has extended the offer’s availability through at least the end of this month. Meanwhile, Wendy’s and Burger King, along with several other chains, have offered their own offerings.
