Canadian stocks up at close; The S&P/TSX composite rose 0.27% by Investing.com

Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, it gained 0.27% to hit a new all-time high.

The best performers of the session were CES Energy Solutions Corp (TSX: ), which rose 4.49% or 0.35 points to trade at 8.14 at the close. Meanwhile, Spin Master Corp (TSX: ) added 3.34% or 1.08 points to end at 33.37 and MDA Ltd (TSX: ) was up 2.79% or 0.42 points to trade at 15.46 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Celestica Inc. (TSX: ), which decreased 4.18% or 3.00 points to 68.83 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX: ) declined 4.12% or 0.11 points to 2.56 and Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX: ) declined 3.76% or 0.20 points to 5.12 .

Advancers outnumbered decliners on the Toronto Stock Exchange 539 to 379, with 127 ending unchanged.

Shares in MDA Ltd (TSX: ) rose to 52-week highs; up 2.79% or 0.42 to 15.46.

Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.32 percent, or 8.25, to $2,554.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude for October delivery rose 3.01%, or 2.25%, to $77.08 a barrel, while the November Brent crude contract rose 2.48% or 1.94, up to $80.09 per barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR was unchanged 0.42% to 0.66.

US dollar index futures rose 0.16% to 100.77.
