Sheffield Wednesday Ladies look back on a successful season

Sheffield Wednesday Ladies FC completed a successful season of progress on Sunday.

Their season started in September with two close wins, winning both 3-2.

However, a 7-2 defeat to Brunsmeer Athletic and a 4-2 defeat to Rotherham United Reserves showed that there is a lot of work to do.

A new media team, a partnership with Forge Radio and new recruits helped take the side to new heights and big wins soon followed, such as a 10-0 win over Hepworth United and an 8-1 demolition of Socrates LFC.

Undoubtedly the star of the 2023/24 campaign was Amy Broomhead, a prolific striker who wears the number 8 on her back.

She scored over 40 goals and finished the season as top scorer in the Sheffield & Hallamshire League.

Alongside her, young stars like Renee Simmonite-Scott and Heidi O’Reilly have joined experienced heads like Kirsty Tonner to make Sheffield Wednesday Ladies a force to be reckoned with.

After finishing third in the league, Her Game Too Shield at the New York Stadium was a perfect way to end the season, playing in front of 1,500 fans.

It was a 2-0 defeat for Keiron Lee’s side, but they went away with their heads held high as they did well in the match against Rotherham United, two divisions above them.
