Germany’s economy contracted by 0.1% in Q2, the statistics office confirms to Reuters

BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany’s economy shrank 0.1 percent in the second quarter of 2024 from the previous three-month period, the statistics office reported on Tuesday, confirming preliminary data.

“After a slight increase in the previous quarter, the German economy cooled again in the spring,” said Ruth Brand, head of the statistics office, in a statement.

In the first quarter of 2024, German gross domestic product increased by 0.2% quarter-on-quarter.

The bureau revised its annual change for the second quarter in price- and calendar-adjusted terms to 0.0%, up from -0.1%.
