Cockwells managing director Dean Short said: “We are extremely grateful to the fire crews who attended and the quick action of all the emergency services. We will now work with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the fire and will issue further communications when more is known.”

At 5:42 a.m., crews scaled back their efforts and let a team from Falmouth Fire monitor hot spots. The cause of the fire is not known at this time, but a spokesman for Cornwall Fire and Rescue said an investigation would take place later today.

Police officers from Devon and Cornwall were also called to assist fire crews. The A39 Falmouth road was closed for several hours while the fire was extinguished. Police also advised residents to close windows and doors as “significant smoke” was coming from the fire. Our live blog here has all the latest updates.
