Leicester City live Q&A on transfers, contracts and Enzo Maresca’s future after promotion

With four Championship teams competing in the play-offs for the final Premier League spot, Leicester City can already begin preparations for a return to the top flight.

But what do those preparations entail? Well, the first task was to make sure the manager was happy and that he wasn’t up in the middle of the summer. Amid interest from Sevilla, it looks like Enzo Maresca is very likely to stay put.

Then it’s about team planning. First, there are decisions to be made regarding six out-of-contract players. Jamie Vardy and Jannik Vestergaard are expected to stay, while Marc Albrighton, Dennis Praet and Kelechi Iheanacho are expected to leave. Wilfred Ndidi’s future remains up in the air.

Then attention can turn to transfers. On-loan winger Abdul Fatawu is set to make his move from Sporting Lisbon permanent, but Maresca would be hoping to strengthen his squad beyond that. Whether it will succeed, amid financial concerns, is another matter.

Because before City think about buying, they might have to think about selling. They have until the close of accounts on June 30 to balance the books and comply with EFL financial rules.
