And he would know—the travel expert who flies an average of 200,000 miles a year has had his fair share of red-eye flying experiences.

“People shouldn’t hate red-eye – I think it can be really cool,” he said. – But you don’t want to look weak.

Ott added that relaxing lounges, healthy food and ease of transit can make some airports better for red-eye flights than others. He shared with BI his favorite and least favorite airports for night flights.
