Weather in Cornwall sees the Met Office issue storm warnings with possible travel disruption

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Cornwall and the south-west. The warning is in place until 8pm tonight (Thursday 16 May).

Forecasters are warning of possible travel disruptions and localized flooding in the region. There is also the risk of a temporary loss of power in certain places.




The yellow alert covers Cornwall, Somerset, Devon and Bristol, as well as parts of Dorset and Wiltshire. The Met Office said: “Scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop over the area, bringing some localized disruption.”

Forecasters have provided more details on what to expect during the warning period.

Met Office 5 day forecast for the South West

Today’s forecast calls for patches of fog in the morning which will clear quickly for a bright and sunny day. Despite this, scattered showers are expected in the afternoon, some of which could be heavy with hail and thunder, especially in the east.
