One dies after being hit by train as northwest London commuters face delays

One person has died after being hit by a train in the Midlands. Commuters in our area have been experiencing delays following the incident this morning (Thursday 16 May).

Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service and British Transport Police were called to Blisworth Road in Northampton. Crews found one person on the tracks, who was pronounced dead at the scene around 8 a.m.



Officials have confirmed their deaths are not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner, British Transport Police said. Commuters experienced delays between Rugby in Warwickshire and Milton Keynes earlier today (May 16).

Network Rail confirmed to CoventryLive that the line has since reopened. Delays are expected this afternoon (May 16), with people being advised to “check before you travel”.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to the line near Northampton at around 7.58am today (May 16) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, but unfortunately one person was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A spokesman for London Northwestern Railway said: “Services between Milton Keynes and Rugby have been subject to delay and cancellation this morning (May 16). Passengers are requested to check their journeys before travelling.”
