Will Ferrell’s investment in Leeds United could have a streaming battle with Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham

Hollywood actor Will Ferrell is set to join Leeds United’s list of celebrity investors. Ferrell is understood to have bought a minority stake but will not be a decision-maker at Elland Road.

The club has been owned by 49ers Enterprises since last July and has a number of high-profile minority stakeholders, including actor Russell Crowe, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and major golf champion Jordan Spieth. Ferrell’s decision to invest could sound the starting gun in an ongoing battle between the Whites and League One-bound Wrexham.

The Welsh National League club’s rise to the third tier under Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney was documented in Disney’s hit documentary series ‘Welcome To Wrexham’. Ferrell, who co-owns Major League Soccer team Los Angeles FC, even appeared on an episode of the show when he visited Wrexham last February.

A report in The Sun says Ferrell’s presence at Elland Road may see the streaming giants compete to film a lucrative documentary series on United. Amazon previously followed the team in their first two seasons under Marcelo Bielsa, with the Argentine leading the Albi to promotion in 2020.

After finishing third in the Championship this term, United are preparing for the play-offs. The semi-final first leg with Norwich City takes place at Carrow Road on Sunday. Boss Daniel Farke aims to steer the Whites back into the top flight at the first question.
