Manchester United target Frank happy with ‘perfect football life’ at Brentford

Thomas Frank says being at Brentford gives him the “perfect football life” amid reports he is on Manchester United’s shortlist to replace Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag continue to cling to Old Trafford, with last night’s win over Newcastle United boosting their chances of playing European football next season, while they still have the FA Cup final against Manchester City to look forward to.

Suspicion remains, however, that new minority owner Jim Ratcliffe could look to replace the Dutchman in the summer, with Frank mentioned as a possible successor.

But getting him out of Brentford may not be easy.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s final game of the season against Newcastle United, Frank said: “I think it’s the perfect football life for me (here). I think it would be for any manager, head of media, player or member of staff.

“It’s probably the same for City, Arsenal or Liverpool, but a club of this size is competing for titles. There are so many good things here and so many structures and processes and people that make this the best possible place for many people to work.

“The culture is good, we’re hitting in the same direction, it’s aligned. It’s less stressful. Before we started I was confident we’d never lose five in a row in the Premier League but boom, a reality check in January but I’m happy here.”

Asked if he can fulfill his ambitions at the Gtech Community Stadium, he added: “I don’t see why not. Ambition means many things.

“Of course you never know what will happen in the future, maybe I’ll stay here for the rest of my time in football, maybe I’ll go to another club.

“The ambition is how I can make the club perfect. It may be against us to win the title, but we can win other things. Maybe he qualifies in Europe. I don’t want to set any goals because if I did we would always be asked about it.

“We want to win the next game and we want to be ambitious about it.”

Brentford are 16th in the Premier League after a difficult season.
