Australian shares rise at close of trade; The S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.58% by Investing.com

Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Sydney, it was up 0.58%.

The best performers of the session were Downer Edi Ltd (ASX: ), which rose 16.95% or 0.81 points to trade at 5.59 at the close. Meanwhile, TPG Telecom Ltd (ASX: ) added 8.08% or 0.37 points to end at 4.95 and Fletcher Building Ltd (ASX: ) was up 7.98% or 0.21 points to trade at 2.84 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Appen Ltd (ASX: ) which was down 16.87% or 0.21 points to trade at 1.01 at the close. Ramsay Health Care Ltd (ASX:) declined 7.33% or 3.27 points to end at 41.30 and Harvey Norman Holdings Ltd (ASX:) was down 6.34% or 0.31 points , up to 4.58.

Advancers outnumbered decliners on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 730 to 412, with 444 ending unchanged.

Shares in Downer Edi Ltd (ASX:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 16.95% or 0.81 to 5.59. Shares in Ramsay Health Care Ltd (ASX:) have fallen to 5-year lows; losing 7.33% or 3.27 to 41.30.

Gold futures for December delivery fell 0.19%, or 4.80, to $2,555.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodity trading, crude for October delivery rose 0.41%, or 0.31%, to $76.22 a barrel, while the November Brent crude contract rose 0.43% or 0.34, to 79.16 dollars per barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.68, while AUD/JPY rose 0.08% to 98.67.

US dollar index futures rose 0.05% to 101.32.
