Liverpool hit with reality as Premier League table emerges without VAR

Where Liverpool would place in the Premier League without the intervention of Video Referee Technology has been revealed.

VAR continues to be a topic of conversation despite being introduced by the Premier League back in 2019. Referees have come under scrutiny this season after an incorrect refereeing decision often stole the show.

It was hoped that video technology would give referees additional support to avoid controversial decisions. But a number of decisions were described as “significant human error” by PGMOL director of referees Howard Webb.

Reds star Luis Diaz was ruled offside against Tottenham in one of the opening games of the season. The decision was not corrected by Simon Hooper or Darren England – the VAR leader for the game.

Diaz got in behind the north London club’s defense to fire into the bottom corner past Guglielmo Vicario. After the 2-1 defeat, PGMOL admitted that the goal should have stood.

It comes as Wolves called a Premier League vote to ditch the technology, although Liverpool look set to vote to keep it.
