VAR-free Premier League table as Man City and Manchester United face reality

VAR has continued to be both problematic and controversial since arriving in the Premier League in 2019.

It was believed that the introduction of video technology would help eradicate controversial decisions being made, giving referees the extra support they need to make correct decisions when in doubt.

What materialized was an alternative scenario, with clubs at the top and bottom of the table suffering from incorrect calls at crucial moments of their season.

It was announced on Wednesday that Premier League clubs will have a vote in June on whether to ditch VAR, such has been the harm the system has created.

The outcome of this vote remains to be seen, although it has been reported that the clubs are unlikely to meet the required majority of 14 out of 20 clubs supporting the idea.

Some parties were luckier than others when it came to technology this term. Liverpool were on the receiving end of their biggest VAR error to date after seeing a legitimate goal scored by Luis Diaz at Tottenham Hotspur disallowed due to miscommunication between the officials.
