How the Crips and Bloods Really Work, According to Former Members

Tyrone White was a member of the 65 Menlo Gangster faction of the Crips gang in South Central Los Angeles in the late 1980s and 1990s. White held the position of street trooper and participated in drug dealing, gangbanging and neighborhood hiking. He later joined a police force in Oklahoma. After he resigned, he went to prison for robbery.

White talks to Business Insider about his experience as a gang member, the Crips culture and the rivalry with the Bloods. He also covers the role of Crips celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Big U in preventing gangs in California.

Since leaving the gang, he has worked as an actor and worked with the Eagle Ridge Institute.

Skipp Townsend was a member of the Rollin’ 20s Avenue faction of the Los Angeles Bloods gang for 27 years. Townsend talks to Business Insider about the Crip rivalry, gang signs, culture and music. He also covers the role of celebrities and Bloods-affiliated groups such as Suge Knight and Death Row Records in preventing gangs in California.

After his release from prison, Townsend founded the intervention organization 2nd Call to support local communities in LA.
