A prisoner suspected of stabbing child killer Roy Whiting is a killer once obsessed with horror film Psycho, The Mirror can reveal.

Andrew Light – who is serving a life sentence for stabbing his roommate – has been linked to the prison attack on Sarah Payne’s killer at HMP Wakefield. Whiting was left covered in blood after the frenzied stabbing at the maximum security prison in February.

Now the Mirror can reveal that Lumina is at the center of the investigation – more than two decades after she stabbed her gay lover to death in the flat they shared.

Light’s own hearing was told that during hours of interviews in 2002, he told officers that killing Richard Edwards, 53, was the best feeling he had ever had and gave him a hurry

He said he wanted to kill someone after watching the movie Psycho III on loop. And after the first knife smashed into his victim’s skull, Light received a second blade to continue the attack.

He said: β€œI could hear Psycho’s music playing over and over as I was stabbing him. He fell to the floor and I continued to stab him. I wanted to hurt him.” A source said: “Given Light’s history, Whiting was lucky to escape with his life.”

During a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court in 2002, it emerged that Light initially met his victim at a bail hostel and later moved to the Midlands, saying he was looking for work.

Mr Edwards was stabbed more than 30 times during the vicious attack, with injuries to his head, face, back and chest. And the ribs on the right side of his body were broken after Light dragged him through the flat at Lancaster House, in Oldbury Road, on April 29, 2001.

Jailing him for life at the time, Judge Michael Mott said: β€œIn anyone’s view this was a vicious attack on a man who weighed less than seven and a half stone. Some of the wounds were inflicted very close to death or after Mr Edwards had died because there was very little blood.”

The morning after the murder, he went to breakfast in a cafe and then calmly surrendered to the police. During the five-day trial, a number of medical experts disagreed with Light’s diagnosis, with defense witnesses arguing that he was schizophrenic and had extreme personality disorders.

But a psychiatric nurse told the court she had faked her illness. Light denied murder, but he admitted manslaughter to Mr Edwards on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

After only three hours of deliberation, the jury unanimously found Light guilty of murder.
