The Hamper Company joins forces with Age Concern

Cornish-based Letter Box Hamper has teamed up with Age UK to help tackle loneliness and social isolation.

The company donates British food bins to the charity every month to help some of those who need them most.

The charity works closely to support isolated and lonely people in Cornwall, not just the elderly as many might think.

As a business born out of a desire to renew the hamper industry, supporting the wider community is integral to Letter Box Hamper.

Founder Jonathan Winfield said: “I created the Letter Box Basket to change the way you gift food and drink, my small, personalized, thoughtful baskets are always beautifully hand-wrapped and mailable to arrive as a surprise directly through letter boxes. Coming to Age UK Cornwall was a natural decision, helping to spread warmth and joy, even in the most difficult of times. I am very excited about this partnership!”.

The first basket delivery was made last month as part of the ‘Step into Wellness’ programme, which is facilitated by Age UK Cornwall. Designed to help those on a journey to improve their mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, this free initiative combines conversation-based sessions with activities, each exploring with individuals ‘what matters to them’. In addition, the program broadens connections as well as friendships, improving health and self-confidence.

The initial drop of hurdles at their group in Liskeard was very well received by one recipient who was delighted with the surprise treat which she said “really made my day”. It is precisely this feeling that Letter Box Hamper has placed at the heart of the company, unexpectedly brightening someone’s day and showing them that they really matter.

As Tracey Roose, Chief Executive of Age UK Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, explains: “We are extremely proud to work with organizations that share our core values and this ongoing partnership with The Letterbox Hamper Company will support our mission to improve health and welfare. throughout Cornwall. These wonderful hampers will be delivered by our wellbeing teams to local community groups and people who are socially isolated. These wonderful ‘gifts of kindness’ make a big impact and show people that they are not alone, that they are valued and that they matter.”

With the next deliveries due to the Age UK Cornwall Newquay and East Cornwall groups, along with a joint presence at the Royal Cornwall Show next month, this is shaping up to be a long-lasting relationship with a deep impact.
