Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town join Reading in League One next season

Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town have joined Rotherham United in relegation to League One next season.

In a dramatic final day of the Championship, Ipswich Town wrapped up back-to-back promotions and will be in the Premier League for the first time in over 20 years.

At the other end of the table, Rotherham United cruised to victory over Cardiff City, but the Millers’ fate was already confirmed, firmly rooted at the bottom of the table.

Birmingham City beat Norwich City 1-0, but wins for Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers sent the Blues into the third tier for the first time since 1995.

Huddersfield Town, who stayed at Reading’s expense last season, lost to Ipswich at Portman Road and are back in League One after a decade in the top two divisions.

All three have been regular foes of Reading in recent years, making for a difficult campaign next season.

One of MK Dons, Doncaster Rovers, Crawley Town and Crewe Alexandra will join League One via the League Two play-offs.

Bolton Wanderers lead Barnsley 3-1 after the first leg of the League One play-offs, with Oxford United and Peterborough United clashing tonight.
