Atlantic meteorologists see below-average tropical storm activity, by Reuters

HOUSTON (Reuters) – Hurricane forecasters at Colorado State University said on Tuesday that tropical storm activity in the first week of September is likely to be below average.

“Except for the western Caribbean and southern Gulf of Mexico, broad-scale environmental conditions appear relatively unfavorable for the next (approximately) 7 days, but appear to become more favorable for tropical cyclone activity toward mid-September,” forecasters wrote in an outlook issued on Tuesday.

Colorado state forecasters are still forecasting an above-average hurricane season in the Atlantic, with six major hurricanes with winds over 111 miles per hour (179 km/h) from 12 hurricanes out of 23 named storms.
