Ukraine cuts nuclear plant output after Russian attacks By Reuters

KYIV (Reuters) – Capacity has been reduced at one unit of a nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine after Russian attacks damaged the country’s electricity transmission system, nuclear firm Energoatom said on Wednesday.

“There were no accidents at the nuclear power plant in Southern Ukraine,” Energoatom said on Telegram messenger.

Instead, it said production was reduced after “hostile shelling of Ukrenergo’s infrastructure” and “significant fluctuations in grid parameters.”

Energoatom said electricity production at the unit was cut by 33 percent, but did not say when this happened.

Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has come under increased Russian missile and drone attacks in recent months.

Officials said the country has lost about half of its generating capacity and now relies mainly on power generated by three nuclear power plants.

A fourth, the largest in Europe, Zaporizhzhia NPP, was occupied by Russia at the beginning of the war and is not currently in operation.
