Sheffield Steelers’ thrilling season is featured in the latest documentary

‘Steel: An Extraordinary Season On Ice’, which charts the journey of Sheffield’s sporting stars, is now available to the public.

A team from ITV Calendar News worked on this special film to showcase the amazing but troubled journey of the Steelers this season.

The film covered detailed depictions of the club’s achievements as well as their highs and lows.

Chris Dawkes, sports correspondent and presenter at ITV Yorkshire, said: “It’s a story of triumph over adversity and how a group of young people had to deal with unimaginable tragedy.

“The idea for the documentary started with an off-camera conversation between me and one of the players, Daniel Ciampini.”

Campiani has told how the “incident”, which saw Nottingham Panthers player Adam Johnson lose his life in October, scared him back into the rink.

Before that, they had previously lost a teammate, Alex Graham.

Campiani emphasized how this affected not only him, but also the team.

However, despite all the tragedies they’ve faced over the past year, the Steelers have gone ahead with the contests.

They achieved a “Grand Slam” – all three major trophies in the British ice hockey league – the Elite League title, the Elite Play-offs and the Challenge Cup.

Dawkes’ main goal was to produce a longer story, rather than his original three-minute news report, to capture all the raw emotion of the players and coach.

Apart from this, behind-the-scenes footage of the ice hockey team was revealed and showed the team’s uplifting spirits to see each other through the toughest and darkest moments.

He said: “It makes me very proud to produce something like this and I hope it captures what a great season it has been for the club, the players and the fans.

“We filmed all the interviews in one afternoon and edited a rough version together in one day.”

Immediately after its release yesterday, the documentary received multiple praises from fans and viewers in general.

The film can be watched exclusively on ITV’s ITV X streaming service.
