Accurate Saharan plume dates set for UK amid ‘historic heatwave’ forecast

It will heat up. The UK is set to experience a “very large” and “historic” heatwave this summer as a Saharan wave hits the country, according to Exacta Weather’s James Madden.

So it looks like it’s shaping up to be a scorcher. Mr Madden pointed out: “The start of the meteorological summer now looks favorably warm to hot at times in June, with the potential for a very BIG and perhaps even historic heat wave over the same period (more favorable for the bigger heat wave/heat dome) . scenario in July).”




Before that, the end of May is forecast to mark the start of our next heat wave. From Sunday, May 19 to Tuesday, May 21, temperatures will begin to rise, peaking between May 24 and 26, bringing record warmth for the year.

As we approach the hottest day of the year, a record 25 degrees Celsius, most parts of the country can enjoy bright and sunny weather. The Met Office Outlook for 20 May – 29 May suggests that ‘The week should start on a reasonable note in many areas with a fairly dry and bright spell, particularly in southern parts of the UK.

“In the north and west, there will always be more cloud, with the risk of showers or rain at times. For the rest of the period, it looks like fairly typical conditions will prevail across the board, with the north and west areas often most at risk of rain outbreaks, while further south and east will see the best of the more interludes dry and brighter,” reports Birmingham Live.

“There is a risk of showers even here, although at this time of year they tend to be heavy with occasional thunder. Temperatures will likely remain slightly above average.” The BBC Weather team say Monday 27 May marks a change to “warmer” conditions.
