Barnsley FC Women wrapped up their North East League Premier Division fixtures with a 6-3 home win over Wakefield AFC at Oakwell.

Already assured of the title after winning 4-0 at Wallsend on Sunday, Barnsley grabbed a 2-0 lead through Betty Cheetham and Jodie Gregory before they were restored to level when the visitors scored with a last-ditch effort first half deep in stoppage time. time.

It didn’t take long after the break for Barnsley to rebuild a two-goal cushion with Gregory and Amy Dawson on point. Gregory then completed his hat-trick. Wakefield made it 5-3 and Nic Shaw completed proceedings by scoring shortly before the final whistle.

The League Trophy was presented by Barnsley’s legendary sportswoman Dorothy Hyman (Olympic, Commonwealth Games and European Championships gold, silver and bronze medalist from 1958 to 1964) to the delight of a crowd in excess of 500.
