Thomas Tuchel’s ‘fear’ over Manchester United move comes amid Donny van de Beek transfer turnaround

Manchester United’s summer plans will soon take shape as Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares to put his stamp on the current squad.

It has been an extremely poor season for Erik ten Hag’s side, whose only hope of silverware is next weekend’s FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City.

A crackdown on the first-team squad is likely to be high on Ratcliffe’s agenda in the coming weeks as United aim to return to Premier League competition next campaign.

There could also be a change in the dugout as Ten Hag’s future remains uncertain after a disastrous end to the campaign which saw Chelsea overtake the Red Devils in the division.

Tuchel position

Thomas Tuchel is reportedly “concerned” he will not be offered the Manchester United manager’s job this summer.

The Bayern Munich boss is looking increasingly likely to stay at his current club despite the German giants announcing in February that he will be leaving at the end of the season.

A new situation update from ESPN has claimed that the German manager “fears” he will not be offered a role at United, even as Erik ten Hag departs amid concerns that Dan Ashworth is looking for a head coach capable of being used in a broader structure, because opposed to an authoritarian central figure.

The report adds that Tuchel “remains open to formal talks” should negotiations with Bayern break down.

MEN says: It would be a shame for United to miss out on a manager of Tuchel’s caliber this summer, especially as the former Chelsea boss looked destined to move on. Ten Hag has underperformed in his second season in charge, regardless of the injury problems he has dealt with, and a change seems the likely way forward for the club in the long term. Throwing everything at Tuchel should now be a priority for Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Donny van de Beek twists

After it became clear that Eintracht Frankfurt do not intend to finalize the loan of Donny van de Beek, there has been a twist regarding the future of the Dutch midfielder.

Inter Milan are said to be interested in a deal for the former Ajax star, a report in Italy has suggested, although the intermediaries involved fear the idea is to use Van de Beek as a “pawn” in a deal to bring Right wing… Denzel Dumfries back to Old Trafford.

The Dumfries, 28, is up for sale this summer for a fee of around €20m (£17m) with the Italian club hoping to find a “quality replacement”. Van de Beek’s trade for Dumfries is said to “not suit Inter in any way”, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka the only player believed to be under consideration for such a deal.

MEN says: With Van de Beek is almost certain to move on in the coming weeks, so why not try to use him as part of a trade deal? Dumfries was a consistent performer in an Inter side that won back-to-back Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia and reached the Champions League final. If Inter are unwilling to accept Van de Beek in exchange for the Dutchman’s services, a general offer would certainly still be worth it.
