The leaked data shows just how important a revenue contributor Hulu is to Disney By Investing.com

A significant data breach at Disney Earlier this summer, it exposed a range of financial and strategic information, as well as personal staff and customer data, according to filings reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.

The leak, orchestrated by hackers, revealed detailed information such as passport numbers for Disney Cruise Line employees, Disney+ streaming revenue and sales figures for the company’s Genie+ theme park passes.

The data leak, comprising more than a terabyte of information, is also said to include internal financial details about Disney’s streaming services, such as Disney+ and ESPN+, and information about its park pricing models.

Among the most notable disclosures is revenue from Genie+, a premium park pass that generated more than $724 million in pretax revenue at Walt Disney (NYSE: ) World between October 2021 and June 2024, according to the WSJ.

Disney+ streaming revenue was also revealed, with internal documents suggesting the service generated more than $2.4 billion in revenue in the March quarter alone.

That represented about 43 percent of Disney’s direct-to-consumer business, which includes Hulu. While Disney does not disclose revenue for individual streaming services within its direct-to-consumer business, the leak highlights the importance of Disney’s streaming services, including Hulu.

The WSJ reported that personal data was also exposed, including the passport numbers and addresses of Disney Cruise Line employees and some customers. In addition, staff reactions to the company’s position on Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law were found in the leaked files.

The hackers, known as Nullbulge, uploaded the data to a decentralized file-sharing network in July, leaving it publicly accessible. Nullbulge claims to be a hacktivist group in Russia, although some researchers believe it is the work of a lone person in the US, the WSJ said.
