“My moldy council house has made my child sick and means I’m separated from her”

Katie Roberts, who lives with her partner Ashley, their three children and her sister in Wednesbury, even has letters from doctors saying the mold poses a “significant risk” to young children’s health.

The 26-year-old, who is unable to work due to suffering from PTSD, social anxiety disorder, autism and paranoid schizophrenia, says their living conditions are “disgusting”.

She said: “There are too many people and too much furniture in the house, which the air cannot circulate and causes mould. In the summer, we can open the windows, but when winter comes, it’s not like that. an option.”

Mold spread over the walls

Her children Hunter, three, Scarlett, two, and Willow, who is just 3 months old, have already developed health conditions as a result of the mold.

When Katie was pregnant with Willow, a letter from her GP to the council said: “The mold problem is a significant risk factor for the health of her unborn child.

“It would be in the best interests of Katie and her unborn child that she be moved to a larger property with four bedrooms and a garden as soon as possible.”
