Mark Cuban Says Kamala Harris Is Only ‘Founder Mode’ Contender

The “Shark Tank” star made the statement in an X post Thursday, referencing the term coined by Y Combinator co-founder Paul Graham.

Graham published a headline essay on the subject on Sunday. In it, he contrasted the hands-on approach adopted by founders with the delegative nature of managers.

“Hire good people and give them space to do their job. Sounds great when described like that, doesn’t it? Except in practice, judging by founder report after founder, what this often turns out to mean is: professional employees. fakes and let them run the company into the ground,” Graham wrote in his essay.

Graham’s essay did not specify which business leaders were in “Founder Mode,” although he did mention the co-founder and CEO of Airbnb Brian Chesky and the late founder of Apple, Steve Jobs.

Cuban himself weighed in on the topic on Tuesday, saying in an X post that founders need to be dedicated to their businesses.

“They have to be self-aware and find people to give them skills they don’t have and also not slow them down,” Cuban wrote.

“Where things go wrong is when you fall into the trap of thinking that every leadership hire is some form of silver bullet, then it’s over. If the founder or founding team is not the silver bullet, it will be a tough road to follow,” he added.

But while the “Founder Way” might be more closely associated with the tech world and Silicon Valley, Cuban believes Harris exemplifies that.

Cuban’s compliment came after he gave an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” during which he commented on Harris’ stance on entrepreneurship.

“She’s talked more about entrepreneurs and helped them get access to investment and made it easier for people to invest in startups than any president I’ve ever heard talk about startups and entrepreneurs,” said Cuban, CNBC host Andrew Ross Sorkin.

Cuban initially supported President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign before switching his support to Harris after she took over as the Democratic nominee.

During his interview with CNBC, Cuban said he has been in regular contact with Harris’ team and even offered to serve in her administration if she wins in November.

“I told her team, ‘Look, put my name in the SEC,'” Cuban told Sorkin. “It has to change.”

The Cuban campaign and Harris did not immediately respond to requests for comment sent outside regular business hours.
