Durov says Telegram will address criticism of how it moderates content by Reuters

(Reuters) – Telegram chief Pavel Durov said on Friday the messaging app will take a new approach to content moderation and remove some features that have been abused for illegal activities.

“While 99.999% of Telegram users have nothing to do with crime, the 0.001% involved in illegal activities create a bad image for the entire platform, endangering the interests of our nearly billions of users,” Durov wrote on Telegram .

“That’s why this year, we’re committed to turning moderation on Telegram from an area of criticism to one of praise.”

Durov was investigated last week in France for using Telegram, which he founded, for fraud, money laundering, child pornography and other crimes.
