Collision between prison transport van and 19 vehicle injuries in Illinois

ROUND LAKE, Ill. (AP) — Nineteen people were injured after a prison transport van collided with another vehicle and struck a utility pole in northeastern Illinois on Wednesday.

Sixteen inmates were in the van en route to the McHenry County Jail, Grayslake Hainesville Police Chief Jeff Myhra said in a Facebook post.

The accident happened around 1pm in Round Lake when the second vehicle made a left turn in front of the van. Two people were in serious condition. The number of injured prisoners was not immediately released.

The accident was under investigation.

Round Lake is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northwest of Chicago.
